This use to be an amazing local sporting hub for the Morley area. New management came in and ruined the reputation morley rec centre once had. Came in and introduced a bunch of punitive policies. A lot of locals are talking and unhappy with the changes new management have implemented. Not to mention the arrogant and dismissive attitudes they brought with them. What a shame
Recently under new management and it's coming apart in a big way.
Added some annual costs for players - with explanation - fine. But the end product as a consumer is a higher priced experience that has lowered substantially in quality;
- Facility upkeep (basketball nets are hanging by a thread, pardon the pun, for weeks without being replaced)
- Referees now exempt from any form of scoring which means 4v4 is compulsory now if both teams arrive with 5 players
- Ceiling fans to basketball courts switched off during play (on 40 degree days) for final game time slot
- Poor scheduling (our basketball team has been scheduled for 4 straight 9:15pm games - which happens to be when the fans are turned off)
...to name a few.
Essentially, regression in a big way at a higher cost. Some might argue that some of these things are the case everywhere, but these things haven't been the case at Morley until recently - and I've played there for 20 years. Geographically the only option for team members on Monday nights, so we're stuck with regression until we stop playing, it seems.
Disappointing.
Monday night bball, under new management.
Forced us to play 4 on 4 because we could only provide 1 scorer, despite only providing 1 referee. Not their fault for being undermanned, but it's a regular occurrence with no apology or consolation. Manager chomped at us because "she's trying to look after 4 courts" like it's difficult to stick a bunch of sacrastic teenagers with whistles on each one. $70 bucks per-team, per-game, plus a new annual player rego fee to be treated like scum.
Courts are well maintained, though.
Great for group fitness classes, lot's of variety and options.
Gym is small, courts look great
A man by the jack Lawrence asked me for my snap multiple times I said no but he kept going. Eventually he got sick of the denial, he then started using racial slurs at me because of the colour of my skin Tone.
Went there for a free outdoor concert. Low chairs at the front high chairs at the back, standard procedure, however after getting there an hour and a half before the concert started, just as the first act was about to commence, a woman on a walker went right to front, sat on her walker and blocked everyone's view. The guy with her had a high back chair as well and nobody did anything about it. Very poor organisation.
Friendly vibe exercise classes, community feel and inclusive. Place to start your exercise journey, no stress, no posers, good times
